A Beautiful South Bend Family Portrait Session!

And we’re back-! Welcome to June! This Weekly Wednesday we’re back with a Family Portrait Session that we captured in our neighborhood in South Bend. Grandson Alex & his other half Abbey decided to gift Alex’s parents, grandma, and other family members a Family Portrait Session gift certificate for Christmas (with the Session set for 6 months later). We chatted with the family about the best time in Spring for outdoor Portrait Sessions, they picked their favorite dates, and we finally got to meet & capture all of them-! While most of the family/ 6 households are from here in South Bend, some made their way up from St. Louis, Missouri for their Memorial Day weekend Family Portrait Session and we were excited that they were all able to be together over the holiday. Without further adieu, their Family Portrait Session-!

For their Family Portraits, all generations of their family were able to get together from age 6 to age 80. Also very exciting for us (the crazy animal lovers) was the fact that Alex’s parents brought along their family dog Murphy (an 11 year old golden retriever) and Alex & Abbey also brought their french bulldog Roxy! We always love when folks include their beloved pets in their family, engagement, or wedding photos and these two were SO well behaved.

Normally folks in our area (at least over the past decade+) have requested portraits at Notre Dame, elsewhere on the river, St. Pat’s Park, St. Mary’s, or other very photographed spots, so we were thrilled to get to capture their family at a different historic South Bend park (which just so happens to be in our neighborhood). The park has had 2 major rounds of renovations over a year and a half, so for their Portrait Session we utilized 2 of these new spots that were built to encourage community to gather there-! We even got to capture what they called their cheesy “Modern Family shot” of them at the 115 year old historic South Bend fountain (that was just added to the park- originally hailing from another park in town).

We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day for Alex’s family either-! After a weird week with temperatures going from 90 to 38 to a more even 75, it was shockingly perfectly mild & sunny out for their Session (which isn’t something we say often at all here in South Bend/ the Midwest with its unpredictable rain, snow, humidity, extreme temps, and odd weather patterns).

Alex & Abbey have been making beautiful renovations on their house, so they were excited to have all of the family over for a grill out after their Family Portrait Session on their newly updated back porch-! We love that they were able to leave their Session and walk back home for the evening grill out with family.

Thanks so much to Alex & Abbey for having us capture your extended Family Portrait Session for your family members-! We had a blast getting to know your family during your Session (and afterward) with everyone being so open and welcoming. We can’t wait to finish up editing all of the images this week and show you the full gallery-!
