May Throwback to Past Portraits & Weddings-!

This week just 4 days away from Mother’s Day coming up as we’re preparing for our late 2020 weddings (since most wedding couples were wise & and pushed their weddings back to late Summer 2021 due to no one knowing when vaccinations would be available to all). To honor Spring (which we have over 2 more months of) we wanted to share with you some very floral and fun Spring weddings, Portrait Sessions, Engagement Sessions, and more from Springs Past that show just how gorgeous and flower-y (and green) Spring can be up here near Chicago & Canada in the Midwest-! These weddings & Portrait Sessions are mostly from here in the Midwest up on the Illinois, Indiana, Michigan border from the past 5 to 6 years (rather than our 7 to 11 year old client work- weddings and Portrait Sessions- from Ohio and California since we obviously love our recent work more than most of our old work).

With over a decade’s worth of weddings & Portrait Sessions under our belts, we love to have the ever rare Flashback. Today we’re doing so for this fleeting time annually here - specifically for when there are Spring Flowers here which is most often between mid-April and mid-May/ early June. Obviously there are different types of plants and flowers throughout summer and fall as well, but there’s just something about the new light green and patchy Spring trees & the pastel colors of the Spring flowers popping up everywhere- even on many of the trees-! Out in California we rarely got many glimpses of Spring or these types of flowers and trees since there at our old homes in Santa Barbara it was most often a drought with succulents, agave, yucca, thorny oaks, palm trees, and more that covered the ground (though in the mountain house we did get the tasty weed yellow sorrel once a year)! It’s a very exciting time of the year here in the Midwest with us itching to get our 100 tropical plants outside and get our new perennials into the ground (as well as our food garden), but we have to wait at least one more week for night temperatures to go up to do so since in a couple nights here up near Canada we’ll have night temps hitting 33 F.

Anyway, without further adieu, SPRING photography-!

Up in our area (Chicago, South Bend/ Michiana/ Southwest Michigan) we always, always encourage folks to wait until late April or at least mid-May for gorgeous flowery outdoor Portrait Sessions and weddings! We can’t guarantee that flowers will be out and that there won’t be a random cold snap day with snow, so we most often try to encourage after mid-May for classic Spring beautiful, airy Portraits of families, couples, and wedding guests in our area up here.

Also in late Spring are high school and University graduations, so often our work is making sure to capture graduate clients before or FOR their graduation! Spring brings so much change between the flowers and weather, so it feels pretty natural to also capture the beautiful transition of the graduates into adulthood or their new careers-!

Thanks so much for checking in this week-! Next week we’ll be doing a check-in for the 14 month mark of the Pandemic to update you all on how things have been in the past 14 months since our 1st lockdown in mid-March 2020. Things got pretty stressful for all of us (the two of us, our pets, our clients, etc) last Spring, so we’re VERY thankful that we were fully vaccinated a few months ago in February, that this Spring is MUCH more stable for us with much fewer worries, and that we made it through everything with our clients all still intact! Happy Mother’s Day to you all this coming weekend AND Happy Handmaid’s Tale Day to those of you who watch the new episodes of Handmaid’s Tale every Wednesday (omg today’s was intense). We hope that you are all getting vaccinated and are able to (or SOON able to) REUNITE with your families and loved ones. We know the weight that we’ve all been carrying in various degrees from Small Business Owners feeling like we’ve been thrown to the sharks in ALL ways (financially and socially), medical field feeling fear then numbness due to being on the GROUND floor of Covid-19 Pandemic deaths, corporate workers & school kids going stir crazy in their homes after being cooped up for a year, etc. Now more than ever Mental Health and love are key, so keep checking in with yourself (except for on the scale- ignore weight scales for a good 6 to 8 months so you can mentally & socially heal first, then tackle body things if you want). We’ll chat more about all of this next week, but for now have a good rest of your week and weekend! Catch you next Weekly Wednesday!
